Holy Priest Stat Priority

Welcome to the Holy Priest Stat Priority page! Stats are an important part of the World of Warcraft and are officially called “Attributes”. Improving certain stats as a Holy Priest will improve your ability to Heal. There are primary stats and secondary stats. As a Healer your most important primary stats are Intellect and Spirit. Stamina is another primary stat that isn’t as important but appears on most pieces of gear anyway, this increases your HP.

Intellect increases your spell power which makes your spells stronger and heal for more. This stat is always on Holy Priest gear and you should almost always aim to boost this stat. There is no Intellect maximum or “cap”.

Spirit is what gives you mana regeneration. Mana regeneration means that while you spend mana to cast your healing spells, the higher your spirit stat is, the more mana is returned to you during combat. Again, this stat appears on most Holy Priest gear. You should boost this stat should you be having problems running out of mana. If you come to a point where you’ve got an excessive amount of mana during encounters, it’s worth reforging or regemming spirit to a secondary stat.

For those Holy Priests below level 90, all you need to worry about in the stats department is making sure your gear is Cloth, and have at least 1 (if not both) of those 2 base stats, Intellect and Spirit, you need not worry about secondary stats in early game.

For those aiming to hit dungeons or start raiding or to become a stronger healer, the secondary stats that are most important to you as a Holy Priest are Haste and Mastery. Another stat that holds less importance for you is Crit.

Multistrike is a new stat that gives you a chance to obviously, cause spells that you cast to strike more than once, up to 2 additional times at 30% effectiveness. This is the Holy Priest’s Attunement stat, It becomes our most important secondary stat because of the passive effect: Divine Providence where you gain an extra 5% from all sources of Multistrike, which is why it’s more important to you.

Mastery is another secondary stat that you can focus on. Each and every spec of each class has a different Mastery. Mastery for the Holy Priest is Echo of Light. Echo of Light is an automatically applied Heal over Time(HoT) on every target you heal with any healing spell. Lasts 6 seconds and stacks on targets.

Critical strike chance is the last of the secondary stats that has an effect on healing, but due to its unreliability is the least beneficial.

Haste makes your spells with a cast time (Flash Heal etc.) faster meaning you can cast more spells during an encounter. Haste also effects the global cooldown of your spells (which is the time between casting spells).  Be careful of having too much Haste as it will chew up your mana quite fast.

To sum up, our recommendation on stat priority is:

Intellect > Spirit > Multistrike > Haste > Versatility / Mastery / Crit

These very general guidelines to follow and don’t factor in other influences such as buffs from other classes in your party/raid. Once you get a handle on the general idea of stats you will learn what you need to focus on. Now you know what stats are important, it’s time to put them into practice on the Holy Priest Enchanting page.

I have a question in regards to these stat priorities. I wasn’t sure if you have an actual forum or an additional FAQ to ask it in, but I’m curious about the haste caps being before or after raid buffs. I can reach 16.65% raid buffed, but I’m trying to build for more mastery with a second set due to the high AoE-intensive fights in heroic SoO. Should I just not bother anymore, or should I at least reach that plateau raid buffed?

    • We like to aim for just above 16.65% haste (raid buffed) to ensure we get additional ticks from HW: Sanc and the Glyphed Renew. So Haste rating of 4,721 or so before buffs and then into Mastery.
